We joined forces with them because this project is up our alley: it focuses on people and social fairness, and of course, we incorporate the environmental aspect as well.

Multicultural District

Shopperhal is an exotic market hall in Amsterdam's South-East Bijlmer area. Located in the heart of Amsterdamse Poort, a multicultural shopping, housing, and entertainment district, it's undergoing transformation by CBRE Global Investors.

Since the early 1980s, Shopperhal has been a crucial landmark and social shopping hub for Bijlmer residents.

With its unique offerings of exotic fruits and vegetables, fabrics, arts and crafts, fashion, and food, it's best described as a souq or bazaar.

For decades, the Bijlmer area has struggled to improve its residents' lives.

We must dive deep into understanding the audience, improving their quality of life, supporting the local entrepreneurs, and integrating sustainability and circularity at the core of our concept

And so we did.

EXTENSIVE RESEARCH

We began with extensive research and stakeholder engagement, collecting genuine feedback from local residents, traders, and potential visitors who were hesitant to come to the area

CONCEPT OF CELEBRATION

We developed a concept of celebration, embracing the vibrant mix of cultures, flavors, and sounds.

ELEVATING SHOPPERHAL

We brought in a curator toelevate Shopperhal beyond a shopping mall, transforming it into a vibrant destination forAmsterdam.

NEW DESIGN

We introduced a new architectural design inspired by souqs and bazaars, and created branding that trulycaptures the essence of theplace and established acoaching program fortraders

CIRCULAR & SUSTAINABLE

Importantly, we integrated circularity as a core element, not just an afterthought.

From the gardens and restaurants to the products sold and materials used, everything is circular and sustainable.

We must dive deep into understanding the audience, improving their quality of life, supporting the local entrepreneurs, and integrating sustainability and circularity at the core of our concept
